Maria,
The ticket won't cause your insurance to go up - the accident will! An at-fault accident will be chargeable to you and cause your insurance rates to be high, since you are a new driver too.

I suggest buying an older car that does not need comprehensive or collision coverage (here is where they really jack the rates for new drivers) and you should be OK.

The first answer is totally wrong, there is no way for that person to know the amount unless if they called your insurance company and knew a ton of details about your and the accident, your policy, and the car you where gonna buy. The other person's thinking is true for back in the day. I am 23 and have some more recent experience with this stuff (my brother's accident not mine).

Are you sure the officer gave you a ticket? That is not common to give a ticket in an accident unless its something like a DUI or reckless driving, which yours isn't, you just lost control of the car, (pretty much every accident is this). Next it depends on your insurance company, age, if in school your grades, the amount of damage caused, the area you live in, the exact make-up of your insurance policy (multiple drivers?, their records?, job titles, multiple cars?,etc..) and finally on the exact car you will buy. With all that in mind it could still be that your insurance does not increase at all, some companies forgive 1 item per 3 years.

If the damage is less than $750 in California there is no reporting needed to DMV and the only way your insurance will ever know is if you tell them, since they check with DMV.

If you go with allstate that accident forgiveness would render you useless cause you were allready in an accident and more that likely they will see that on your report and they would be like gee this guy really screwed up. Well you know the rest, but here in SC accients mean higher insurance premiums, speeding tickets=higher insurance premiums.
but good luck to ya.

It depends on which insurance you have or are going to get. Some give a sort of freebie for a first incident or accident forgiveness (Allstate). Get quotes online at insurance.com. You'll get some good offers. You can also take some drivers improvements courses.

If you are under 20, which i assume your are, it will go up considerably. Right now without the accident you probably pay about $100 a month depending on the car.....once you have your first accident it will almost double that. sorry for the **** ty luck....be more careful next time
